Negombo is a city located on the west coast of Sri Lanka, between the capital Colombo and its international airport. The city has the second largest fish market in Sri Lanka, known as "Lellama" by the locals. In fact, Sri Lanka is the oldest nation in the Indian Ocean exporting tuna fishes to the international market, contributing remarkably to its GDP.

The day starts early in the Negombo Fish Market with a fish auction at 4-5 am after the fishermen come back with all sorts of sea creatures they catch at the lagoon of Negombo and the sea nearby in the midnight. It is not uncommon to see the fishmongers spreading merchandise on some cloths or towels on the ground here in the market.
